Jauhari — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 8 November 2026 (supersedes the 14 August 2026 version)
This English text is the authoritative version of the policy. Translations are provided for convenience; if a translation and the English text differ, the English text applies.
Jauhari is a local-first research notebook. The short version: your work never leaves your device, because the app has no account, no sync, and no server to send it to.
Data collection#
Jauhari does not collect, transmit, store remotely, sell, or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting, and no developer server that receives anything from the app.
Jauhari's own code makes no network requests of any kind. Every feature that touches your work — writing, linking, scanning, charting, timing, importing and exporting — runs with the device in airplane mode.
The website, the online guide and bug reports#
Jauhari has a website at https://jauharinote.nasrun.fyi. It holds the product page, the user guide (/docs/) and this policy (/privacy/). Two buttons in the app lead to it or to a form, and both work the same way: Profile → Guide → Full guide online and Profile → Guide → Report a bug first ask for confirmation, then hand a fixed web address to your device's default web browser. Jauhari itself sends nothing: it passes no notes, data, identifiers or other parameters in the address, and needs no extra permission to do this. The page loads in your browser, outside the app.
- Full guide online opens
https://jauharinote.nasrun.fyi/docs/. The website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. As with any website, Cloudflare processes standard connection information (such as your IP address and browser details) to deliver it; see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. The guide loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser also contacts Google; see the Google Privacy Policy. The website contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code and uses no cookies; the guide only stores your light/dark theme and language choices in your own browser. The guide is optional: the same topics are summarized offline in Profile → Guide. - Report a bug opens a Google Form (
https://forms.gle/vcvWYJSVKdiChmao9) in your browser. The form is hosted by Google, and anything you type into it is sent to the developer through Google Forms, not through Jauhari; Google's handling of it is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Jauhari does not attach your notes, items, datasets, device details or any other data to the form. Share only what you are comfortable sending, and never include passwords or other sensitive information.
About the network permissions#
The Android app's permission list includes INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE. Neither is requested by Jauhari or used by its code. They are added automatically to the app package by Google Play Billing, the library that processes the optional subscription, and they cannot be removed while in-app purchases are offered.
This is stated plainly because you can read the permission list on the app's store page, and a privacy policy that contradicted it would not be worth much. What those permissions mean in practice: purchases are handled by Google Play in Google's own process (see Purchases below); your notes, items, datasets and images are never sent anywhere by this app.
Where your data lives#
Everything you create in Jauhari — notes, items, datasets, workflows, images — is stored only on your device, in the app's own private storage, as plain Markdown files (plus images and a local database). The vault lives entirely in that app-private space and requires no storage permission. You can move Markdown notes in and out through the system file/folder pickers (see Permissions below), and back everything up with Export entire vault. Deleting the app or clearing its data deletes it permanently; the developer has no copy and no way to recover it. You are responsible for your own backups.
Permissions the app asks for#
- Camera — used only to scan barcodes/QR codes for the item registry and to attach photos to notes. Images are processed on-device and saved into your local vault. Nothing is uploaded.
- Notifications — used only to alert you when a workflow timer step finishes.
- Alarms & reminders (exact alarms) — used only so timer notifications fire on time. If you decline, timers still work with less precise timing.
- Storage — none requested. Jauhari asks for no storage permission. Your vault lives in the app's own private storage on the device. Markdown files move in and out only through the system file and folder pickers you open (Android's Storage Access Framework /
file_picker), which are scoped to exactly the files and folders you choose — when you pick notes for Export notes (Markdown), pick a folder to write them into, or pick.mdfiles for Import Markdown files (Profile → Storage). Any export can instead be handed to the system share sheet, which sends the file only to the app you pick there. There is no broad "all files access" granted or used.
No file picker requires a permission: files and folders are chosen through Android's own document picker, which hands the app access to exactly what you selected and nothing else.
Purchases#
The optional Jauhari Pro subscription, including its one-month free trial for new subscribers, is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. The developer never sees or stores your payment details. Google's handling of purchase and billing data — including any diagnostic data the billing library sends to Google — is covered by the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. The app checks your entitlement on-device via Play; no developer server is involved.
Children#
Jauhari does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy#
If a future version of the app ever changes any of the above (for example, an optional cloud-sync feature), this policy will be updated first and the change will be called out in the app's release notes. The current policy always lives at the URL where you are reading it.
Revision note (13 August 2026): the previous version stated that the app does not request the INTERNET permission. That was inaccurate — the permission is merged into the package by Google Play Billing. The section above now describes the situation accurately. The storage permission added in v1.2.0 has also been documented. No data practice changed; only this description of it.
Revision note (14 August 2026): the v1.2.0 storage permission ("All files access") has since been removed. The app now requests no storage permission; the vault is fixed in the app's private storage, and Markdown moves in and out only through the system file/folder pickers.
Revision note (pending the next app release): exports can now also be handed to the system share sheet, which sends the file only to the app you choose there. No data is collected or transmitted by Jauhari itself.
Revision note (v1.11.0): added "The online guide". The app gains a confirmed button that opens the documentation website in your browser; no permission was added and the app still sends no data. The subscription section now mentions the one-month free trial, which Google Play manages.
Revision note (8 November 2026): the website moved to jauharinote.nasrun.fyi (product page, guide at /docs/, this policy at /privacy/), and a confirmed Report a bug button now opens a Google Form in your browser. No permission was added, the app still sends no data itself, and no data practice of the app changed.
